Back to Pre-School
We were all eager to return to Pre-School after the summer break. We have welcomed some new starters and have been enjoying chatting with the children about what they did in the holidays.
A Pre-School Jungle!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our jungle themed activities. The role play has become nature themed and is full of some wild animals. The children have been dressing up as jungle explorers and using binoculars to see what they can spot. The jungle can be quite treacherous but luckily the children have a tent to hide in.
We have been using our small group times to explore some of the jungle animals and look at their features and sounds that they make.
Outside, we have a ‘river’ full of dangerous ‘crocodiles’ so the children have been using beams and stepping stones to avoid getting snapped. Lucky for the staff, the children have been keeping us very safe and warning us to come to land every time we accidentally step in the water!
We have also acquired some monkey bars for the children to practice their climbing skills. We were so proud of how hard they tried; repeating the activity until they had mastered it!
Julia Donaldson Online
The children enjoyed an online live video with Julia Donaldson. We discussed who she was, her job and we talked about the books she wrote, including the Gruffalo and Superworm, which is one of Pre-School favourites! Before the call we tried to see if the children could remember these facts, they did a great job, especially remembering all her books.
She shared her new book, Paper Chase with us, which is a story all about two children and how paper was made, the book also told us lots of things that paper is used for.
We hope to try and make paper at Pre school after reading such and exciting job, so we can reuse our paper as part of being a more sustainable Pre-School.
Julia then read her other book, The Oak Tree, which is another lovely book all about an ancient oak tree and the children that played with it over the centuries.
The children all sat wonderfully and listened and we watched the illustrator draw a picture of one of the characters from the book.
