World Book Day
Last week was World Book Day! The children had the option of dressing up as their favourite character and brought their favourite book in to share with the rest of the children. This year, we had some fantastic characters including Mr Bump, a Gruffalo, a Witch, a Spider, Bluey, some beautiful princesses, two pirates and a Very Hungry Caterpillar. The staff joined in the fun and dressed as a Dinosaur, a girl with lots of pockets, the Gingerbread Man and a Zebra. We had a lovely day reading and celebrating books and stories.
The Tiger who Came to Tea
Following on from World Book Day, our theme this week has been the Tiger who Came to Tea. We have set our role play area up as a little kitchen with dressing up clothes, a tea set, food items and plates. We also have an all-in-one tiger costume and dress so the children can dress up as Sophie or the Tiger! They have loved taking it in turns to dress up as a Tiger and act out the story.
In the creative area, we have been making tiger faces using orange and black paint on paper plates and next week the children will have the opportunity to make their own ‘meal’ for the tiger, by cutting out pictures of some food that they think the tiger will enjoy and sticking them onto a paper plate.
Kind Hands and our Safe People
The children love to paint, especially their hands so we have paired them up and instead of painting their own hands they have been painting each other’s. It is lovely to see how carefully and gently they have been using the paint brushes.
We have also been looking at the people who we can turn to if we need help. Using a picture of our hand we have been filling in each finger and identifying a person for each who we can ask for help if we are sad, worried or scared.
Spring
Our planters have been looking a bit empty so the children have been planting strawberry plants and dry peas to grow into pea shoots. Next week we will be planting runner beans and sweet peas. The children have loved watching the changes in the plants weekly and have been helping to water everything when the soil is becoming dry.
