Alice Mellings

Early Years Practitioner, SENDCO

I always wanted to pursue a career in teaching, although my career initially took me into retail management with Arcadia and later into Head Office at Next.

During Covid, I came across an advertisement for bank staff at Harbury Pre-School, and this gave me the opportunity to finally take the first steps towards working with children. While my little girl was attending the pre-school, I completed my Level 3 qualifications, becoming a fully trained member of staff.

Since then, I have completed lots of additional training, predominantly specialising in SEND. Supporting children who need a little extra help is a real passion of mine. I feel I have the patience and understanding to build positive relationships with children, recognise their individual wants and needs, and support them in a way that works for them.

This passion led to me being asked to take on the role of SENDCO alongside Catherine in September 2025. In this role, I work closely with her to deliver interventions and provide additional support for children with their learning and sensory needs.

I absolutely love working at Harbury Pre-School and feel very lucky to be part of such a lovely team. We have a wealth of experience and, most importantly, we all share the same goal of giving every child in our care the support, encouragement and opportunities they need to thrive.
