Here is an extract from our June 2010 newsletter: |
| + | We very much hope that you have had a really lovely half-term break and that the children are now all geared up for the Carnival and the rest of this final half-term of the Pre-School year. | ||
| - | ====Ofsted Report==== | ||
| - | Well, what an amazing start to the year for Pre-School! Thank you so much to everyone (and not least all the children) who contributed towards our “OUTSTANDING” Ofsted report. The second half of the term will probably not be quite so dramatic, but it will be nonetheless busy in the build up to Easter. | + | ====Carnival==== |
| + | We are now into the final build up for the Carnival and we are looking forward very much to Saturday, when this year’s float will be revealed, complete with all the wonderful artwork and creations produced by the children before the holiday. Please encourage family and friends to come along and support Pre-School as they take part in the parade – it always means a huge amount to the children to see familiar faces cheering them on. | ||
| - | ====Chinese New Year==== | ||
| - | In this first week, we will be learning about the Chinese New Year. We have a variety of Chinese style clothing for the children to try on. Any other items that could be borrowed would be gratefully accepted, as would any other Chinese artefacts, so that we can help the children to learn and understand a little about the Chinese way of life. | + | ====Den Building==== |
| - | We will also be practising Chinese songs and will use lots of red and yellow streamers for the children to hold and wave while they are performing their own version of the Dragon Dance. | + | As soon as the Carnival is behind us, the theme for June and July will turn to den building and we will be looking at the story of the Three Little Pigs while we build homes using different materials. This topic will cover all areas of learning and we look forward to seeing lots of small and large scale creativity, painting and drawing, language, problem solving and calculating, investigation and working together. |
| - | ====Pets==== | + | ====Summer Outing==== |
| - | In the third week of the half term, we will be talking about caring for pets and we would be delighted if the children could bring in a photograph of a pet (theirs or someone else’s that they know well). The role play area will become a vet’s surgery and grooming parlour and we also hope to have a visit from a local vet, as well as some furred or feathered visitors. | + | As you know, this year’s outing will be to Ryton Country Park to practise our den building skills on Thursday 24 June. We will need to be prepared for any weather conditions, so please bring sun cream and hats or waterproofs, as appropriate (or both if the weather is changeable on that day!). In addition, suitable footwear should be worn to take account of the rough terrain in places – no party shoes or “Crocs” please. You will also need a packed lunch and a picnic blanket is handy if you have one. The coach has child appropriate seat belts, so only small siblings will need child seats. Please meet at the Dog Inn Car Park at 9.15 a.m. so that we can depart promptly at 9.30. We expect to be back no later than 1.30 p.m. |

| - | ====Fund Raising Dates==== | ||
| - | Please support these events however you can, either by attending the event, buying raffle tickets, donating raffle prizes or offering to help with setting up or during the event itself – every bit helps! | + | ====Orchard Outing==== |
| + | |||
| + | It is hoped to arrange further outings to practise some more den building and take part in other activities in Bud’s orchard. | ||

| + | ====Parents’ Evening==== | ||
| + | |||
| + | There will be a parents’ evening on Tuesday 29th June. | ||
| + | |||
| + | |||
| + | ====Teddy Bears’ Picnic==== | ||
| + | |||
| + | Weather permitting, the annual Pre-School Teddy Bears’ Picnic will be held in Harbury Park on Friday 16th July. All Pre-School children, parents, siblings and teddy bears are invited to come and enjoy some games and a picnic in the sun. In the event of wet weather, the picnic will be held at Pre-School, but sadly it will have to be restricted to Pre-School children who attend the Friday session (and their teddy bears) due to lack of space. | ||

| + | |||
| + | And Finally ……. Sadly this will be the last newsletter for seventeen of our Pre-Schoolers, but we wish them well as they take the next big step in their lives in starting at Primary School in September. | ||
| - | In addition to our main topics, we will be involved in many other activities, both indoors and outdoors. As always, if you have queries about any aspect, please feel free to speak to Lisa, Gael or your child's keyworker either at the beginning or end of a session. | ||
