About Us

Our Vision Statement

At Harbury Pre-School we aim to create a caring, secure and stimulating environment where all children will enjoy learning, achieve success and feel valued and respected.

We aim to foster each child’s uniqueness and individuality as they work towards common goals within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We are committed to providing a high level of care and education for all our children and are constantly looking at and implementing ways to move the setting forward.

The Management Committee

Harbury Pre-School is managed by a committee of parent volunteers who contribute their time thereby reducing overall costs. The membership, who are parents of the children currently attending Pre-School, elect the Committee at an annual general meeting. The Committee is governed by a constitution and assumes overall responsibility for the Pre-School business and charitable funds.  Please see Staff and Committee to see who is currently on our management committee.

Safeguarding

Please see Safeguarding for further information and to view our safeguarding policy.

Ratio of Adults to Children

A key priority of the Pre-School is the focus on the individual care for each child. This is made possible by a high ratio of adults to children, which we aim to be one adult to a maximum of six children.

Key-Person System

Each child also has the support of a personal key-person. Our key-person system gives each member of staff particular responsibility for just a few children. Each child in the group has one special adult to relate to, which can make settling into the group much easier. In addition, the key-person is in a position to tailor the group’s curriculum to the unique needs of each child. The key-person maintains links with the child’s home setting, working with parents to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential.

Communication with Parents

We pride ourselves on our open and frequent communication and involvement with parents and carers. On the first day your child starts Pre-School we ask you to stay with your child, allowing you both to share the experience.

Staff are available at the end of sessions to informally share with parents any successes or concerns their child may have had that day. We publish a half-termly newsletter to parents, involve parents in fund-raising, and invite all parents to join our Pre-School committee.

We make our session plans available on a weekly basis. Parents’ evenings are held regularly, when parents can discuss their child’s progress with their key worker in a relaxed and confidential setting.

Garden

Our garden is part of the outdoor play area, so your child has access to it every session they attend throughout the year. He or she will be involved in planning what to grow, sowing seeds, planting and harvesting as well as general maintenance.

We welcome all family participation in the planning and care of our garden and we are also hopeful the children will have exhibits at the annual Harbury Horticultural Show.

Links with Harbury C. of E. Primary School

Harbury Pre-School has close links with Harbury Primary School and the leaders of the Pre-School meet regularly with the Reception teacher, and the Headteacher, Ms Guymer. All our Pre-School children who will be attending Harbury Primary School visit the School with Pre-School staff in the term before they are due to start, and the Pre-School aims to ensure that this important transition is as smooth as possible for all children.
